Tinea(Ringworm) information

Although the name contains the word "worm" ringworm is not caused by a worm.  It is really a fungus that lives and spreads to the top layer of the skin. It is highly contagious and people and pets can get it in a number of different ways. It is most likely that people get Ringworm or Tinea by coming in contact with an infected person or animal. It has an incubation period of ten days, so its symptoms won't be displayed until after the end of the tenth day of contact. You can also get it by touching an object that has come into contact with a person or animal like a blanket, Tinea clothing such as hats, or things like gym mats. It is less likely for a people to get Tinea is from the ground.  It is more likely for an animal to catch Tinea in this way, than a person.
